Solid Modeling Solutions Announces Release 3.5

BELLEVUE, WA – May 15, 2001 – Solid Modeling Solutions is pleased to announce SMLib 3.5. SMLib version 3.5 represents an incremental release built upon version 3.0, which was the third major release since the original software introduction in October 1998.

SMLib Release 3.5 new features include:
  • Implementation of "Local Operations" or "Tweaking" where one or more surfaces are replaced in a Brep and the adjacent edges are recomputed.
  • Full UNICODE compliance.
  • New curve classes - IwCircle, IwParabola, IwHyperbola as fully supported subclasses of IwBSplineCurve which can be used in the construction of an IwBrep.
  • New surface classes - IwCylinder, IwTorus as subclasses of IwBSplineSurface which can be used in construction of an IwBrep.
  • Support for STEP based construction, STEP parameterization for evaluation for the analytical classes (Plane, Cylinder, Cone, Torus, Surface of Revolution, Surface of Extrusion, Line, Circle, Ellipse, Hyperbola, Parabola).
  • New intersection and projection algorithms have been added to leverage the additional analytical information to improve performance and accuracy for the analytical classes.
  • Support for creation and display of Assemblies. Two new classes created - IwAssembly and IwAssemblyInstance.
  • Performance improvements in many low level operations. 20x improvement in Booleans with only planar faces. 3x improvement in Booleans with mixed analytical and NURBS models. 2x improvement in pure NURBS Booleans.
  • The NMTLib DLL is now compatible with Multiple Processor Applications and is "SMP Compliant".
  • Additional enhancements and reliability of fillets and blends.
  • New functions for constructing bi-cubically blended Coon’s surfaces.
  • A new point cloud surface fitter with control of surface normal vectors at specified points.
  • Surface interpolation or approximation to an NxM grid of points with the four boundary curves as hard constraints.

Fully compatible data translation libraries have been updated to support SMLib 3.5 and are available to support IGES, STEP, and VDAFS formats.

SMLib is released as C and C++ source code and is certified for Windows, NT, Unix, and Linux platforms. SMLib continues to be licensed monthly for unlimited internal use at one site or for use at one development site with unlimited external distribution rights for the resultant applications without payment of any per seat royalty fees. All enhancements, bug fixes, and unlimited customer support are included in the monthly fees. More details can be found on the SMLib website at www.smlib.com.
