Solid Modeling Solutions Announces Release 2.5

BELLEVUE, WA – February 1, 2000 – Solid Modeling Solutions is pleased to announce SMLib 2.5. SMLib 2.5 introduces an extensive set of capabilities resulting in a substantial feature release.

SMLib Release 2.5 new features include:
  • Non-manifold sweeping – a point, curve, or face can be used to sweep to the next dimension whereby a face of a solid is used to create a new region sharing the same face. If the face is deleted, the result is a single solid.

  • Shelling – one of the most difficult operations in solid modeling occurs when the offset distance gets larger building the offset. This problem is solved with the new process in SMLib 2.5. An example of the usefulness of shelling is in machining parts where the offset shell is used for determining cutter paths.

  • Mass properties – very precise area, volume, center of gravity and moments are calculated precisely for each Brep object.

  • Performance – a variety of improvements have been made to the Merge process resulting in speed improvements from 5 to 10 times.

SMLib is released as C and C++ source code and is certified for Windows, NT, Unix, and Linux platforms. SMLib continues to be licensed for $2000/month for internal use at one site or $2500/month for use at one development site with unlimited external distribution rights for the resultant applications without payment of any per seat royalty fees. All enhancements and full unlimited support are included in the monthly fees.
