| Proglas Makes Use of SMLib in Precision Glass Cutting |
|
Proglas Engineering GmbH was one of the first customers of SMLib back in 1998. Proglas, located in Forst between the cities of Karlsruhe and Heidelberg in South West Germany, recognized the value of SMLib geometry kernel in developing their core product, ProCUT®, and they started with a prerelease version of SMLib. SMS was pleased to help Proglas as an early user, and the technical dialogue was invaluable to both parties. Enhancements were made to improve SMLib performance, and the IGES data translator was provided to Proglas as a beta product in 1999. SMLib improved as a product, and the implementation of SMLib by the Proglas staff was expedited due to the special relationship established as a beta test site.

ProCUT® is used for decorative cutting machines for cutting bulky and heavy glasses with arbitrary shapes; cutting is depth-controlled with automatic wheeldressing and automatic tool changer; single or multiple stations can be extended to entire production lines. CrystalCAD® is a CAD system for designing shapes and patterns of glasses with photorealistic presentations (see photo) and as a CAD/CAM link to ProCUT® cutting machines. Having the user in mind Proglas provides a CAD system, CrystalCAD®, tailored to the specific demands of the design of glass items. CrystalCAD® features universal tools for all stages of glass design and production. |
Ursula Spangemacher, the director of Proglas Engineering, has said "SMLib has made our products more precise, improved overall performance, and have enabled us to interchange data more efficiently. SMS have been very responsive and helpful in our utilization of their products." Proglas provides continuous-path-controlled cutting with extremely high precision and quality. They have among its customers virtually all of the quality glass manufacturers in Europe.
More details about the Proglas product line can be found on their website at www.proglas.com.
