Solid Modeling Solutions Announces Version 6.7

Solid Modeling Solutions is pleased to announce Version 6.7 of our suite of libraries. A number of maintenance and performance enhancements are in SMLib. New versions of TSNLib, GSNLib, and NLib are also available as proper subsets of SMLib. TSNLib contains all of the trimmed surface capabilities, but lacks the non-manifold topology and Boolean capabilities. GSNLib contains the general surface methods, but lacks the trimmed surface capabilities of TSNLib. NLib is the advanced NURBS kernel containing curve and surface functionality. The primary enhancement to the libraries is the introduction of the squared distance minimization (SDM) capability. One of the difficulties in constructing a curve or surface as a fit to an ordered set of points is the requirement that a parameter value be assigned to each point. The geometry group at the Vienna University of Technology has pioneered some new and innovative SDM techniques. For an overview of these techniques please click here. Computing a curve to approximated data points provides a major new capability for our customer's applications.

SMS exhibits at Game Developers Conference

SMS had a booth at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco March 9-11. The new introduction of subdivision surface capabilities was of particular interest to the game developers, but it was notable that there were a number of other application developers at the conference who were not gamers. SMS capabilities were very well received, and game development is a new market for our products and services.

SMS to exhibit at the CAD05 show in Bangkok

SMS will have a display at the CAD05 conference in Bangkok, Thailand June 20-24. This will be the second year for this CAD conference and exhibition in Southeast Asia. Last year SMS had a booth at the technical exhibition and caught considerable interest in this emerging region. The conference has very exciting technical and social objectives. Details on the conference can be found at www.cadconferences.com/CAD05.html.

Solid Modeling Solutions to exhibit at Siggraph

SMS will have a booth at SIGGRAPH 2005 in Los Angeles. The conference at the Los Angeles Exhibition Center runs from July 31 to August 4, and the exhibition runs August 2-4. If you plan on attending, please stop by the booth. If you need a guest pass to the exhibits, please contact us at sales@smlib.com. We will be introducing our first implementation of NURBS-integration with subdivision surfaces at the show.
